IIIT-H Finishes World No.3 at TAC SCM 2012 Competition

Team iota of IIIT Hyderabad secured the World No.3 position in the 10th Annual Trading Agent Competition Supply Chain Management (TAC SCM).

This is the first time team iota participated in the competition, while the other finalist teams have been participating for the past few years.

In 2006, IIIT-H team Kshitij, mentored and guided by Prof. Kamalakar Karlapalem, was awarded the Best New Agent Award at TAC SCM 2006. Check here.

TAC SCM 2012
TAC SCM 2012 is part of the 13th Annual Trading Agent Competition (TAC- 12). TAC SCM was designed to capture many of the challenges involved in supporting dynamic supply chain practices.

The finals of TAC SCM 2012 took place during the 11th international conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi Agent Systems (AAMAS 12) in Valencia, Spain, on June 4-8, 2012.

About Trading Agent Competition (TAC)
The Trading Agent Competition (TAC) is an international forum designed to promote and encourage high quality research into the trading agent problem, promote definitions of benchmarks and standard problem descriptions, and showcase current technologies.

The competition will pit software agents, developed by research groups, students, and others from all over the world, against each other in challenging competitive simulation scenarios. These scenarios are designed to present competing agents with difficult decision problems and admit a wide variety of potential bidding and negotiation strategies.

About TAC Supply Chain Management (SCM)
Since 2003, the competition has a supply chain scenario created and designed jointly by a team of researchers from the e-Supply Chain Management Lab at Carnegie Mellon University and the Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS) called TAC SCM.

TAC SCM simulates a dynamic supply chain environment where agents compete to secure customer orders and components required for production of these orders. The game captures many of the complexities of actual supply chains, where both demand and supply fluctuate and each manufacturer has limited production capacity.
